Bluetooth showing Traffic jams
Port of Rotterdam uses Bluetooth technology to access information on road and traffic conditions. From the A15 Freeway in the port area to Belgian and German borders, on 60 locations near highways a Bluetooth measurement units has been placed. An averag of 34-54 % of all vehicles is being detected this way.
The Rotterdam Port Authority makes every effort to create a free flow on the A15, promoting and further increasing the accessibility of the Port of Rotterdam. To achieve this a hotel for employees has been created on the Maasvlakte, a specific TRaffic-company was establishes, a container-trransferium in Alblasserdam has been created and Service Level Agreements where signed for traffic to Holland area's, border area's and European destinations, by land and by water.

Bluetooth is an open standard for wireless connections between devices at short range. For example, with Bluetooth data exchange between mobile phones, handheld computer or a mobile phone equipped with a wireless headset. The technique was developed by Ericsson in Sweden.
